"The Peggy Horror Picture Show" is the two hundred-second episode of King of the Hill. It was first aired on January 28, 2007. The episode was written by Christy Stratton and directed by Kyounghee Lim.
Summary[]
Feeling unfeminine, Peggy meets a woman who helps her gain confidence in being a lady. However, her new friend turns out to be a drag queen who thinks Peggy is a fellow man in drag. Meanwhile, Bobby and Joseph play around with a practical joke book, only to find that the practical jokes cause good luck for the victims.
Plot[]
Peggy, Nancy, Minh, and Luanne gather together for a clothing exchange. When Nancy offers a pair of barely used boots, Peggy excitedly claims them and tries to wear them, but her large foot size prevents that. After Luanne claims the boots, Peggy offers a pair of culotte shorts, but Luanne claims the culottes are not trendy like Peggy believes.
Peggy returns home and tells Hank how the exchange went. She then asks if he thinks she is feminine, but his only solid answer is that she is a wife and mother. He does notice how this appears to bother her and offers to buy her a new pair of shoes. At the Gribble house, Bobby and Jospeh are looking through a joke book when Dale asks if they have seen his switchblade comb. When Joseph reminds Dale that he had broken it earlier, Dale reveals that he is on edge due to the possibility of becoming the next club president. Seizing the opportunity, Bobby places black ink on a quarter and instructs Dale to roll it on his face for a massage. Dale does so and the quarter leaves ink marks all over his face.
Peggy tries to call her favorite shoe store but quickly learns that they have gone out of business and have since become a dog bakery. She goes online to try to find another store and finds one named Clarissa's Closet. Upon arriving at the store, Peggy is overjoyed at the variety selection of large sized shoes. At Dale's gun club, the members of the club are about to name another man president when Dale arrives. When the men think the ink on his face is war paint, they quickly copy the markings onto themselves and name Dale the new president; all of this witnessed by Bobby and Joseph as they watch through a window and are upset that the prank did not work out the way they thought it would.
At the store, Peggy meets a woman named Carolyn and quickly becomes fast friends with her. They spend the following day bonding and exchanging feminine and beauty tips. They end the day together when Peggy drops off Carolyn at home. When Carolyn enters the apartment, Carolyn's mother is inside waiting. Carolyn informs her about meeting Peggy and removes her wig and make-up, revealing herself to actually be a drag queen who thinks Peggy is a drag queen as well.
Later, at a sale at Shelwyn's, Peggy is thrilled to have a friend who is able to keep up with her. She then asks Carolyn about the acts she does on the weekends and is invited to do a duet when she impresses Carolyn with a scarf. The two head to Peggy's home to practice a dance routine where Carolyn realizes Peggy is an actual woman when meeting Bobby and seeing a picture of Peggy when she was pregnant. In the alley, Bobby and Joseph attempt to prank Bill by making him follow a dollar on a string. Bill nearly gets struck by a car in the process and rushes to check on the driver when they crashed. The intoxicated woman flirts with Bill and offers to let him drive her home. Having seen what happened, Bobby and Joseph are once more upset their prank did not work.
At his apartment, Jamie (Carolyn) informs his mother that he has figured out Peggy is a real woman and feels he cannot allow her to be part of the act. That evening, Peggy is preparing to head to the club when she invites Nancy and Minh to see the show. A short while later, Hank and the guys are drinking in the alley when Jamie arrives. Posing as Carolyn's friend, he asks if Peggy is available but learns she has already left.
At the All the Queen's Men club, Jamie finds Peggy and tells her how he and everyone else are drag queens. Peggy is confused why she would be asked to be part of the act until it dawns on her that Jamie thought she was a man. The sudden realization causes Peggy to break down and leave. Although Nancy, Luanne, and Minh try to comfort her, their comments about her tomboyish nature make her cut them off and away from her house. Hank arrives and asks about the act but instead hears Peggy tell how Carolyn is actually a man and thought Peggy was a man as well. Confused by the story, Hank suggests that she call Carolyn, but the comment sends Peggy into a fit of hysterics. Hank decides to call Carolyn to set up a meeting with Jamie.
At a juice bar, Hank tells Jamie about the situation between Peggy and Carolyn. Jamie tells Hank that Carolyn is very fond of Peggy and feels that a talk would help Peggy. At school, Bobby and Joseph watch as Connie tries to add salt to her meal only for the lid to fall off and the salt ruin her food. A passing trio of girls walk by and invite Connie to join them in having pizza. Bobby becomes fed up with the pranks not working like they should, but Joseph comes to believe the book causes good fortune onto those they target. He asks Bobby to prank him, but nothing comes from it.
At the Hill house, Carolyn arrives to collect a reluctant Peggy and her bag of clothing. They head to the club where the men instantly fawn over Peggy's clothes. Carolyn explains that drag queens normally don't idolize wispy, common women; they idolize and style themselves after strong, substantial, and fearless women who aren't afraid to make bold fashion statements or wear something that comes off as ridiculous or cheesy to others. Having her spirits raised, Peggy happily joins the clothes exchange.

Trivia[]
- This is the second time where Peggy has been mistaken for a man in drag due to her large feet, the first time occurring in "Ho Yeah!" at a library.
- Carolyn's appearance and style of dress are similar to that of Patrick Swayze's character in the 1995 film To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, which is about three drag queens from New York on a road trip.
- This episode is a play on The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
- In the final scene where Carolyn says "drag queens model themselves after strong, substantial, fearless women", one of the drag queens is shown to be dressed in the likeness of Frida Kahlo.
- It is revealed in this episode that Lubbocks Very Big Shoes, which was featured in the episode "Order of the Straight Arrow", went out of business and become a dog bakery (which explains why she didn't go there to get her size 16 shoes on "Transnational Amusements Presents: Peggy's Magic Sex Feet"). It should also be noted in this episode that Hank is aware of the store's existence and Peggy's history of being a customer, whereas Hank didn't know about it in "The Order of the Straight Arrow" (of course given the time that should've passed between both episodes it's not out of the question that Hank became aware somehow).
- Hank is able to comfortably fit into and wear a pair of Peggy's jeans.
- When Peggy is taking Carolyn home and she questions why everyone doesn't use their high beams when driving, there are actually two main reasons. Although it is allowed to use high beams in city limits, it is actually somewhat negligent as it can temporarily cause visual trouble to other drivers. The second reason is that some areas of Texas made it illegal to use high beams in a town/city since there are sources of light to provide lighting.
Goofs[]
- Dale is shown running for the gun club president in this episode. However, he was re-elected as gun club president in the Season 6 episode "Soldier of Misfortune" (he could be running for re-election again).
