History[]
Season 10[]
In "The Texas Panhandler", Spongy was kicked out of his street corner by Derek and his friends, who are unemployed non-homeless people that bum people for money. Around the time that Bobby and Joseph joined Derek to panhandle, Spongy saw them and chastised Derek for stealing his spot. He emphasized that he had it ever since Ronald Reagan's policies forced him out of his mental hospital, causing Derek to make fun of him for his old age. Later, Spongy came across Hank, who was about to leave Emerson Hardware, and asked to wash his windows for money since he could not make much money without his street corner. As Hank responded to his comment about Ronald Reagan, Spongy saw Dale toss his cigarette out of the car window, causing him to excitedly scurry for it. Hank then gave him another dollar and assured him he did not need to wash his windows, but Spongy insisted on it and washed the windshield with a dirty sponge.
On another day, Hank and Peggy again visited Emerson Hardware and were about to leave when Spongy spotted them and decided to wash Hank's windshield again. After Spongy finished his task, Hank drove away from the corner to wash off the dirt out of sight so that the homeless man would not be offended. Sometime later, Derek and his friends gave up their street corner since Hank threatened to expose them further to the pedestrians nearby. As a result, Spongy got his spot back, and Hank and his friends walked by his corner one day and congratulated him on earning his spot back. When Hank put some money in his cup, Spongy claimed that he paid enough money for a song, and he played an out of sync song on his harmonica for the men.
Season 13[]
In "The Boy Can't Help It", Spongy was seen pushing several shopping carts through the alley and collecting cans from recycling bins. Hank and the guys admired the cart so much that they decided to build their own luxury version of the cargo transportation. Later, Spongy hung out with fellow homeless people and cooked cat food. As the homeless men were preparing the meal, Dale, Bill and Boomhauer came by with the cart and showed it to him as a gift. However, Spongy rejected the gift without a second thought, reasoning that wheeling the cart with a TV and generator would draw attention from muggers to him. He then returned to cooking the cat food, which the guys mistook for stir fry when they smelled it.
