Welcome to Hank's world - a suburban paradise of deer huntin' dilemmas, beauty pageants pathos and lawn mower focus groups. So come sit for a spell with Beavis and Butt-head creator Mike Judge and former The Simpsons writer/producer Greg Daniels for all the Hill-arious third season antics from deep in the heart of Texas!
The Complete Third Season[]
This is the third King of the Hill box set, released on December 28, 2004. It contains all twenty-five episodes from the third season (1998-1999) spread across three DVD-10s (double-sided, single layer).
The set features Dolby Digital 2.0 audio in English and Spanish, and is presented in full-frame, with optional closed captions and subtitles in English and Spanish.
After a four month gap between seasons 1 and 2, this set was not released until 13 months after season two's release, in December 2004, after being initially scheduled for spring of that year. This delay is due to Fox originally having no plans to release season 3 due to cost issues. This and future sets are on dual sided DVDs (Three discs per set instead of the previous six). Special features were also dropped, due to a dribbling interest in DVD seasons in the series as the first two seasons didn't sell well. The third season was expensive to release because a lot of the episodes used popular songs that had to be licensed for the DVD release. Fox initially wasn't going to release any more seasons; finally they agreed to release season 3, but without extras (which add to the cost).
Cover Artwork[]
The front cover of the DVD features the "King of the Hill" trademarked logo on the top of the cover with Boomhauer, Bill Dauterive, Hank Hill, and Dale Gribble standing shirtless with "farmer's tans" in front of a brown picket fence next to an open cooler stocked with Alamo Beer cans sitting over ice. The cooler lid says "EMMY AWARD-WINNING SEASON!". Boomhauer has a large yellow foam finger with the index finger pointed up, and the word "THE" painted on his stomach. Bill has a small box of popcorn in his hand, he is wearing a rainbow curly clown wig that is red, yellow, green, blue, and purple, and the word "COMPLETE" painted on his stomach. Hank is holding a can of Alamo Beer, and the word "3RD" painted on his stomach. Dale, with a cigarette in his mouth, is holding a red triangular pennant-style flag with the word "TEXAS" in burnt orange, and the word "SEASON" painted on his stomach. Together the blue paint on their stomach, in the order in which they are standing, spells out the phrase "The Complete 3rd Season".
The spine of the DVD features the "King of the Hill" trademarked logo placed sideways, Ladybird with a cheerleading pom-pom in her mouth looking through a gap from a loose board in the fence, and the subtitle "The Complete Third Season" in capital letters placed sideways.
The back cover of the DVD features Peggy Hill with a red and orange megaphone facing in the direction of Bobby Hill and Luanne Platter who are jumping and cheering while holding cheerleading pom-poms, they are next to Hank's 1993 Ford Ranger truck bed.
