Season 14 of King of the Hill returned after more than 15 years off the air. The show was picked up by Hulu on January 31, 2023, more than two years earlier, and premiered on Hulu on August 4, 2025.[1]

A hilarious slice of middle-class life in small-town America, King of the Hill has become one of television's most beloved and longest-running prime-time animated series. Outrageously funny, but remarkably truthful, the series follows the exploits of propane salesman Hank Hill (Mike Judge) as he reigns over a family of underachievers, a group of beer-guzzling friends, and the everyday challenges of life in Arlen, Texas.

Press Release[]

After years working a propane job in Saudi Arabia to earn their retirement nest egg, Hank and Peggy Hill return to a changed Arlen, Texas, to reconnect with old friends Dale, Boomhauer and Bill. Meanwhile, Bobby is living his dream as a chef in Dallas and enjoying his 20s with his former classmates Connie, Joseph and Chane.[2]

Production[]

A King of the Hill revival had been in the works since the 2017 San Francisco Sketchfest, following a 20th anniversary reunion with the cast and crew.[3] Upon the formation of creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels' new company Bandera Entertainment in 2022, the revival was among the many series slated in-development.[4] By September 2022, the show was confirmed to not be airing on its original network, FOX, as they had preferred to retain full ownership of their new shows.[5][note 1]

The show was finally announced to be greenlit on January 31, 2023, on Hulu, with much of the cast and crew announced to be returning. Saladin Patterson was also announced as the series' new showrunner and an executive producer.[3] Details would gradually emerge, with Stephen Root confirming the series would feature a timejump with the characters aging.[6] The series was one of many impacted by the dual-SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes in mid-late 2023, with production pausing. In the interim, Johnny Hardwick, voice of Dale Gribble who was previously slated to return, had passed-away after completing work on six episodes. Production on the show resumed following the end of the strikes, with Daniels confirming that the writing team was awaiting notes on the first episode.[7]

In 2024, Pamela Adlon (voice of Bobby Hill), provided some updates, confirming the show had been picked-up for an additional fifteenth season and that Bobby would be working as a chef.[8] Later that year, following production wrapping-up, picture of older designs for Bobby and Nancy Gribble had leaked from the show's wrap party via a now-deleted post from voice actress Grey DeLisle's Instagram account, and subsequently went viral.[9] In December, San Antonio's Alamo Beer Co. confirmed that they would be partnering with Hulu to brew King of the Hill-inspired Alamo Beer. It will first launch in Texas in Q1 2025, then the rest of the U.S.A. in Q2 2025.[10]

On April 18, the show was confirmed to be launching during the summer of 2025. A panel for the show was also announced to be held at the ATX TV Festival in Texas on May 30th, featuring the cast and crew from the series. Panelists include Mike Judge, Greg Daniels, EP and showrunner Saladin K. Patterson, Pamela Adlon, Lauren Tom, and Toby Huss.[1]

In April 2025, social media accounts for the show went live across various websites, later becoming active on May 14 with the first teaser poster for the revival. Additionally, the show's Facebook page from its original run resumed posting on the same day, now maintained by Hulu.

On May 30, 2025, Toby Huss was confirmed to be replacing Johnny Hardwick as the voice of Dale. Two days after that, Jonathan Joss who was also confirmed to return as John Redcorn for the season, was murdered not long after recording his lines for four episodes of the revival, according to an Instagram post he made uploaded hours before his death.[11]

Trivia[]

  • This is the first season to stream exclusively on Hulu.[12]
    • The series will also be available to stream on Disney+ in the US for bundle subscribers, and internationally on Disney+ under "Star" branding.[13]
  • This is the first season not to feature Brittany Murphy and Tom Petty, as both have died (Murphy in 2009, Petty in 2017 before the revival's announcement). It has been confirmed Luanne Platter and Lucky Kleinschmidt moved away, and have been written out of the new season.[14]
  • A majority of the original cast reprised their roles in the reboot, including co-creator Mike Judge, who plays both the lead role of Hank Hill and the supporting role of neighborhood ladies’ man Boomhauer. Other returning voice actors are Kathy Najimy as Peggy Hill, Pamela Adlon as Bobby Hill, Stephen Root as Bill Dauterive, and Lauren Tom as Mihn and Connie Souphanousinphone.[15]
  • Dale's voice actor, Johnny Hardwick passed away on August 8, 2023 but recorded six episodes before his death, making this his final voice acting role,[16] with Dale's lines for the remaining episodes performed by Toby Huss. Jonathan Joss (the second voice of John Redcorn after his first voice actor, Victor Aaron, died in a car crash) also died on June 1, 2025, but recorded his lines for four episodes before his death. The episodes in the season, "Any Given Hill-Day" and "A Sounder Investment" are decided in the memories of Hardwick and Joss, even both episodes are the final ones featuring them as their respective characters they have voiced throughout the series.
  • Several recurring roles have been recast from the original show. Kahn Souphanousinphone has been recast from Toby Huss to Ronny Chieng, Chane Wassanasong from Pamela Adlon to Ki Hong Lee, Ted Wassanasong from Huss to Kenneth Choi and Joseph Gribble from Breckin Meyer to Tai Leclaire.[17] due to the push to have characters of color be voiced by voice actors that match their race and ethnicity instead of white voice actors in response to the George Floyd protests, with protests calling out the actors doing "animated blackface".[18]
  • Due to the in-narrative timeskip between the end of the original show and the reboot, the adult characters have all experience minor redesigns, ranging from added wrinkles to changing standard outfits. This is also the first season to feature adult versions of Bobby, Joseph, Connie and Chane, who were preteens throughout the entirity of the original show, as well as a teenager version of G.H. Hill.[19]
  • This is the first season to be released after 21st Century FOX got bought out by Disney.
  • Also as of this season, 20th Television Animation provides the animation as a result of Film Roman, Inc. shutting down in 2018.
