Not to be confused with the Season 1 character Mr. Hernandez. Miguel Hernandez is a news anchor at Channel 84 News. He is voiced by David Herman.
Appearance[]
Hernandez is an adult Latino man with a skinny build, short dark hair, and tan skin. He often wears a dark, grayish-blue suit and pants over a white dress shirt and dark necktie.
Personality[]
He has conflicts with co-workers, namely Nancy Gribble, as he tries to be a better anchor. He tries to compete by having better news stories and trying to take attention away from his co-anchors.
History[]
Season 7[]
After Nancy finished a late-night weather report, Hernandez was about to report on a story about two disk jockeys when Nancy interrupted him to promote her own campaign for the upcoming school board election. He then sat silently and baffled as Nancy bashed her opponent Minh Souphanousinphone. To his confusion, Peggy Hill then stepped in front of the camera to desperately promote her own campaign, and he watched the security guards force her out of the building.[1]
Season 9[]
When news spread throughout Arlen about a "smoking bandit" who went to several businesses to smoke indoors as an act of rebellion against anti-smoking laws, Hernandez reported on receiving a video tape from the bandit. Mentioning that the bandit scrambled his voice to conceal his identity, he then played the tape, which was a silhouette of Dale Gribble speaking inaudible words allegedly about respecting one's father.[2]
In another episode when Channel 84 finally got a Doppler Radar for their TV station, Hernandez conversed with Nancy off-air about her new boots, to which she thanked him and asked him to ask her on-air from where she got them since she would get them for free. Agreeing, he likewise stated that he got a free meal at Barbecue Hut every time he mentioned the restaurant on-air. At that point, their mutual boss Tom Chick came by and berated the lack of accuracy in Nancy's weather reports. Confused, Hernandez asked if they had a Doppler Radar, but Chick confessed that they only wrote the word "Doppler" on the air conditioning. Later, Irv Bennett was hired by Chick to replace Nancy as the weather reporter. On his second weather report, Bennett joked about the size of his nose and how the camera had to turn, making Hernandez laugh. Walking to the anchor, Bennett mentioned that he needed "rhinoplasty". Hernandez expressed silent confusion, so Bennett recovered by joking about rhinoceroses' alleged jealousy of his nose, prompting Hernandez to commend his joke. Much later after a field report on a wildfire, Nancy was airlifted from the forest, which Hernandez reported on. Back at the station, she joined him as a co-anchor while Bennett kept Nancy's old weather reporter role. Before the news airing ended, Hernandez mentioned the Barbecue Hut having delicious food and told the location to his viewers.[3]
Season 11[]
After Lucky Kleinschmidt's pet snake entered Arlen's sewers via Hank Hill's toilet, Hernandez and Channel 84 were contacted by the Heimlich County Animal Control Department in order to get better public relations for themselves. On the air, Hernandez then aired Tommy's story without questioning it, which wrongly claimed that Hank let the snake go down the toilet. He moved the segment to Nancy, who stood in front of Hank's house. Much later after the snake was killed and the animal control employees retracted their request for further funding, Hernandez reported that their proposal, Bond Measure S, still swept by with approval and added that two proposals, Bond Measure A and Bond Measure F, had passed.[4]
Season 13[]
After several adults complained about unsupervised special needs children almost injuring themselves on a ride at Alamo Land, Hernandez reported on the story at the amusement park and asked a few attendees their thoughts on the matter. Afterward, he showed a photograph of an unidentified special needs child, which was actually Dale Gribble, on the ride.[5] In another episode, Hernandez attempted to get better news ratings by reporting on eye-catching stories, particularly a segment on confront bullies titled "To Catch a Bully" (a parody of To Catch a Predator).[6]
