"Lupe's Revenge" is the 107th episode of King of the Hill. It first aired on December 12, 2001. This episode was written by Dean Young and directed by Allan Jacobsen.
Summary[]
Peggy's pride and poor grasp of the Spanish language get her arrested when she mistakenly abducts a young girl while on a field trip in Mexico. Meanwhile, Hank gets sexually harassed by a female cop.
Plot[]
Peggy Hill manages to talk her way into taking the Spanish Club she's substitute teaching for to Mexico on a field trip. Even with Hank not wanting her to leave claiming that she is not fluent in Spanish, she still goes to Mexico thinking that she speaks Spanish better than the Mexican people. She does not follow the teacher's planned itinerary and ends up taking the kids to a butcher's shop by accident after getting them lost, thinking that it is a carnival. At the trip's end, Peggy accidentally makes Lupe, a Mexican girl selling gum, get onto the bus departing for Texas, thinking that she is one of her students and not understanding when she says, "I live in Mexico."
Meanwhile, Hank gets pulled over by a female cop and makes comments that she thinks are flirtations. He talks his way out of a ticket, but feels bad and returns to get the ticket, only to get her phone number, confirming his fears. Once they arrive at the school, the other kids go home, and Peggy confronts Lupe who will not go home. She then realizes her mistake and takes Lupe home where she tries to get Lupe to call her home. Lupe tells her that her family doesn't have a telephone, but Peggy misunderstands yet again by thinking Lupe is claiming to be unloved and wants her to be her new mother, hiding her in the closet while feeding her. Hank soon finds out and demands that Peggy call the authorities, but she decides to instead take care of it herself because she would get in legal trouble.
The female cop is outside again, prompting Peggy to order Hank to stall her as she drives Lupe out of the neighborhood back to Mexico. Once Peggy returns Lupe to her home in Mexico, she initially believes the Mexican authorities wish to thank her for returning her, only for Peggy to be arrested for kidnapping. Her appointed lawyer plans to convince the jury that it was all a misunderstanding brought on by Peggy's poor Spanish. Peggy, however, refuses to allow her lawyer to make that defense, retorting that she speaks perfect Spanish even though she has misunderstood everything the judge has said throughout the trial. Hank and Peggy's court-appointed lawyer decide to let Peggy testify in Spanish to show the judge that Peggy is very bad at understanding and speaking the language. Peggy gives the judge her account of the events, speaking in what she does not realize is very poor Spanish (mostly using false cognates that make everything she says sound like nonsense, but other mistakes include using infinitives rather than conjugating verbs and lack of proper sentence structure). Realizing everything Peggy had done was out of ignorance rather than malicious intent, the judge drops the charges. The episode ends with Peggy freaking out that she's been found guilty, not knowing that she's innocent of all charges (at least not until her lawyer tells her so offscreen).

- In addition to mistaking several nouns, Peggy's Spanish also involved not conjugating the infinitives. The following are some of the Spanish words/phrases that Peggy used at her court trial in place of the words that she should have used:
- "Su Pundonor" (your self-respect) in place of "Su Honor" (your Honor)
- "Caballo" (horse) in place of "caballero" (gentleman)
- "Embarazada" (pregnant) in place of "avergonzada" (embarrassed) [embarazada is considered a false cognate and is often misused by amateur Spanish speakers to mean "embarrassed" when, really, it means "pregnant"]
- "Ella comer mi accidente de camión" (she ate my bus accident) in place of "Ella tomó mi camión por accidente" (she took my bus by accident)
