Hardwick at the Velveeta Room in Austin
John Michael Hardwick (December 31, 1958 - August 8, 2023) was a voice actor, writer and producer for King of the Hill. He provided the voice for Dale Gribble and other minor characters like Tug.
Hardwick was a native of Austin, Texas. He performed stand-up comedy after graduating from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He was approached by Greg Daniels for a writing job for King of the Hill at one of his shows.

On August 8th, 2023, Hardwick died from a currently unknown cause at the age of 64. Due to Hardwick's unexpected death, Toby Huss took over the role as Dale in the show's revival starting with episode 3 before officially episode 8 of Season 14, as Hardwick had completed six episodes for the revival before his passing.[1][2] "Any Given Hill-Day", Hardwick's final episode featuring him as the said character, is dedicated to his memory.
