Summary[]

When Nancy fears she will be replaced, she starts doing what she can to keep her job. Bobby is tormented by a school prankster.

Plot[]

When Channel 84 hires a new meteorologist, Irv Bennett, Nancy Gribble and her less-than-accurate weather reports are left out in the cold. Determined to remain an integral member of the news team, Nancy, with Dale and Peggy in tow, drives a stolen news van into a raging wildfire, aiming to scoop the competition. Nancy reports a live up-link on the fire, and when the station manager sees her on an auxiliary monitor, he orders the feed to go on air. Eventually Nancy, Dale, Peggy and several horses have to be air-lifted out of the fire zone by helicopter.

Nancy's incessant sobbing in her news-report turns out to be a ratings smash, and while the station manager admonishes her for stealing the van, he decides that the viewing public likes her so much, she should go back on air. Because viewers still prefer accurate weather, he makes her a co-anchor of the newscast, rather than giving her back her original position as a weathergirl.

Meanwhile, Bobby is always frightened at school by a boy named Jimmy Bearden who keeps jumping out and scaring him. After an incident in which Jimmy causes Bobby to pee his pants, Hank goes to Jimmy's house to speak to his father, who turns out to also be a frequent victim of Jimmy's prank, and appears to be a nervous wreck as a result. When Mr. Bearden confronts Jimmy about the complaints he has been getting, Bobby appears out of nowhere to scare him, only to be scared again when Hank appears. Jimmy agrees to stop scaring Bobby, although it is unknown if that promise applies to his own father.
