Elvin Mackleston is one of Lucky's redneck friends along with Mud Dobber.

Appearance[]

Elvin is an adult man with light brown hair and a horseshoe mustache with a soul patch. He wears a blue cap and a tan-green shirt with cutoff sleeves.

History[]

He is shown to have violent tendencies when he and Mud Dobber threaten to kill Luanne's prom date, Kevin. They do this only to protect Lucky's engagement with Luanne.[1] He also decides to "help" Kahn by turning him into a redneck. Kahn goes all-out and even allows Elvin to take him sticking after Kahn punches Elvin in the mouth. Additionally, Elvin has spent time in prison and is even seen wearing an ankle bracelet per a probation agreement.[2] He has an unnamed wife. He is also a member of John Redcorn's band, Big Mountain Fudge Cake.[3]

Season 8[]

One day at a gas station, Mackleston witnessed Kahn Souphanousinphone having trouble with his car's side mirror as well as his job. Sympathizing with Kahn, he claimed that Kahn was stuck "in the system" but could be his own man without having to be bossed around. He even joked that he had more freedom in prison than Kahn had with his job. Tired of his own misery, Kahn agreed to accept Elvin's help. Subsequently, Elvin gave Kahn an El Camino and some money in exchange for his old car, and Kahn began to hang out with him and Lucky. During their initial friendship, Elvin had taken out Kahn noodling for catfish and to rock and roll concerts. Furthermore, Kahn had let his lawn grow and even got a guard dog. When Hank Hill expressed worry for Kahn mainly for Connie's sake, Elvin perceived him as a threat. Seeing Peggy step forward to defend her husband, Elvin insulted Hank for allegedly hiding behind his wife.

Leaving with Kahn, Elvin and his buddies drove out of the city into the woods, where a drunken Kahn beat Elvin in a quick fight. Impressed by Kahn's fighting skills, Elvin invited him to go out "sticking", an illegal fighting game where two people fought each other with wooden planks. On the according night, he acted as a referee of the fights to determine which person won. Once enough matches ended, Elvin called on Kahn to fight his opponent. To everyone's surprised, Hank arrived and talked Kahn out of continuing the fight, leaving the area. Afterward, Kahn resumed his normal life and undid his redneck lifestyle.[2]

Season 9[]

Wanting Kahn to rejoin his old lifestyle, Elvin, Lucky and Mud Dobber went to Kahn's house and waited outside. Flashing their car's headlights, Elvin joyfully told Kahn that he was not leaving until the latter came outside to check out Lucky's tire rims. They were then interrupted by an annoyed Luanne, who immediately became attracted to Lucky and admired his car. Seeing the encounter, Elvin was shocked at Lucky's luck with women. Later, Luanne began hanging out with Lucky and attended the informal racing track where Elvin and other men were hanging out.[4] Later, Elvin joined Mud Dobber's band Big Mountain Fudgecake and they eventually made a deal with Henry Mankiller to open an Indian casino. To their dismay, the band members could not play on the opening night since local policemen arrived and shut down the casino and cut off the electricity. When Redcorn was commissioned to play at a family event, Elvin and Lucky refused to come along since they wanted to play for "real" rock and roll audiences. While Redcorn performed for the children, Elvin and Lucky did perform some songs at a heavy metal rave, where they played in a protective cage.[3]

Season 10[]

When Lucky wanted to wait in line for days to buy tickets for a Brownsville Station reunion tour, he had Elvin bring him a portable toilet so that he could use the bathroom and not leave the area.[5]

Season 11[]

After Lucky refused to spend time with her, Luanne decided that she would go to the high school prom with a senior named Kevin. Hearing about Luanne's plan from Lucky, Elvin and Mud Dobber decided to intimidate the boy into staying away from her. In the first incident at the Hill residence, the two men tried to threaten the boy, but Luanne told them to back off, calling her aunt Peggy for help. Seeing Peggy with a weapon, Elvin and Mud Dobber fled the scene. Later at a public place, Elvin found Kevin by himself while the latter was riding his bicycle. Mud Dobber restrained the boy while Elvin used a nail to pop the tires. Although Kevin commented that he was bullied all the time and that there was nothing that had not been done to him, both men threatened to kill him if he went to the prom with Luanne. In due time, Kevin did go to the prom since Luanne assured him that both men would be gone, but Elvin and Mud Dobber had already sneaked inside the high school to watch them.

While keeping watch in a castle prop, Mud Dobber asked Elvin if he had ever been bitten by a brown recluse spider. Finding the question to be ignorant, Elvin replied that he would be dead and not be speaking with him if that happened. Noticing Kevin touch-dance with Luanne, the two men broke out of the castle to attack Kevin. Elvin shut the gym door closed to prevent Peggy from entering while Mud Dobber cornered the child. Before they could assault him, Lucky barged into the school with his truck and ordered both men to let the boy go. Dropping Kevin, Elvin left the school with Mud Dobber, and Lucky and Kevin both danced with Luanne.[1]

Some time later, Elvin attended Lucky and Luanne's wedding. Once the bride and groom kissed, Elvin burped and crushed his beer can against his own forehead.[6]

Season 13[]

To improve Strickland Propane's public relations concerning environmental impact, Buck hosted a "concert for the earth" with Big Mountain Fudgecake playing there. Elvin and Redcorn played with each other, whereas Lucky was not present.[7] Later, Lucky called for Elvin to help him coerce Rainey Street's residents, particularly Kahn and Minh, into giving him and Luanne wedding gifts since they did not get any glasses or other wares from the wedding attendees.[8]
