Summary[]

When Ladybird starts to become aggressive at hearing thunder and is put on the Vicious Dog's list after biting Hank, Hank starts doing whatever he can to keep her from being taken away.

Plot[]

On a cloudy day, Bobby's baseball team is in the middle of a game and in the lead when Hank and Peggy notice that Bobby is next up to bat. They both start to hope that it will start raining before he goes to bat as it would mean his team would automatically win and Bobby wouldn't embarrass himself. After goofing around, Bobby goes to bat, but Boomhauer ends the game as it starts raining. The family returns home but are shocked to find their house in disarray and believe they've been robbed. The police ask Hank if he knows who may have caused the mess and not so subtly drop suspicion toward Lucky, but Hank fails to pick up the signs; most likely because Lucky was with the family at the game.

That night, during another storm, Peggy is voicing how she thinks they need more security even though Hank says that Ladybird is all the security they need. Lucky and Luanne arrive and request to stay the night since they are too nervous about possibly being robbed at their own home. Hank allows them to stay and everyone heads to bed. During the night, Peggy is woken up by Ladybird barking and alerts Hank. The two arm themselves with a golf club and butcher knife and, with the rest of the family, find Ladybird tearing up the couch.

At breakfast, Hank wonders what has caused Ladybird to behave this way and thinks he has not been paying her enough attention. During Ladybird's next walk, Hank notices Ladybird become aggravated when hearing thunder and tries to calm her down but is bitten in the process. At the doctor, Hank has his hand taken care of but becomes incredibly nervous when the doctor reveals he must report Ladybird's actions so she is put on the Vicious Dog's list.

Determined to get Ladybird off the list, Hank takes her to Dr. Yandell to have the claim reversed only to hear that there is almost nothing that can be done since Ladybird's behavior is most likely resulted from her old age and the only real hope Hank has left is to call Oskar de Vries, a dog spiritualist. Although Hank is extremely uncomfortable at some of the things Oskar asks him to do, he still goes through with it. When Oskar eventually thinks that Ladybird is trying to find her own pack, the group eventually end up at the Shady Hills Nursing Home.

As Luanne talks to an elderly woman about being reborn as her newborn, Hank and Peggy see that Ladybird appears very happy around the elderly residents. When one of the residents takes Ladybird for a walk, Peggy asks if this is a good idea as she is concerned Ladybird may bite someone. Oskar agrees with her concern and says how they will need to keep the visit short since there is a chance that Ladybird could be overwhelmed like never before. Hank becomes upset that he was not told this beforehand and soon learns of a large storm heading their way. Wanting to get Ladybird away from the residents, Hank and Peggy become on edge when she is discovered to have slipped away from the man walking her and is now loose in the home.

When the clerk announces that she has called animal control, the Hills push Oskar aside and rush off to find Ladybird. When Bobby is cornered by a group of elderly women, he urges his parents to continue searching for Ladybird. Hank, Peggy, and animal control eventually find Ladybird as she finds a woman reading. They nervously watch as Ladybird approaches the woman but relax when Ladybird merely lies on the woman's lap.

Animal control deems Ladybird non-vicious and leaves. Hank then tries to get Ladybird to leave but notices she is not responding to verbal commands. This leads him to realize that she has lost her hearing and is now deaf. After returning home, Hank tells the others how he is sad Ladybird is now deaf but is glad that she is no longer a threat to anyone.

  • Hank tells the doctor that Ladybird has never acted up and bitten anyone before. However, she in fact has bitten people before as seen in the Season 7 episode "Racist Dawg". But, in fact, Hank actually says that Ladybird had never done "anything like this before", meaning attacking Hank, her owner, specifically.
