Chet Elderson (age 85 1914-1999) is a late volunteer firefighter of the Arlen Fire Department who died during the episode "A Fire Fighting We Will Go". He was voiced by character actor Buddy Ebsen best known for his role as Jed Clampett from The Beverly Hillbillies in his final role before his retirement and died in 2003.
Chet was considered one of the best fire fighters in Arlen, mostly by Hank and the guys. Elderson had a neon Alamo Beer sign, which didn't work right, which innevitably caused the Fire Station to catch fire after his death.
Death and Funeral
Chet Elderson died of natural causes at the age of 85 in the episode "A Fire Fighting We Will Go". Hank, Dale, Bill, and Boomhauer are chosen to be pallbearers, but at the funeral, Dale refuses to touch the casket, which results in the casked being dropped the corpse of Chet to come out of the coffin and his pants accidently being pulled off by Boomhauer when he falls into the grave. He is never mentioned again in the series.
